Striving to win a music scholarship at your dream high school?

Competition is fierce, so give yourself the best chance of success by signing up for our March Performance Workshop & Masterclass for Year 8 Students hosted by Alex Morton.

March Performance Workshop & Masterclass for Year 8 Students

  • March Performance Workshop & Masterclass for Year 8 Students

    3pm – 7pm

    Sunday 23 March 2025

    The Piano, 156 Armagh Street

  • 3pm 45-Minute Practice & Performance Workshop

    4pm – 5:20pm Masterclass Session #1

    5:40pm – 7pm Masterclass Session #2

Performers of all instruments encouraged to sign up.

Performers will be assigned a slot within one of the two Masterclass sessions, and may perform unaccompanied or bring their own accompanist if they’d prefer.

Performances need not be “performance ready” – come as you are and gain crucial insight and experience early so you have time to implement the teachings.

We recommend bringing a drink bottle and snacks to enjoy in the break and keep your mind fueled.

    Filming

Workshop & Masterclasses will be filmed for and distributed exclusively to workshop & masterclass attendees.

    • Learn how to supercharge your practice and preparation in the final weeks leading up to your audition with Morton Music’s signature practice methodology, The High-Intensity Interval Practice (HIIP) Method

    • Learn the skills to develop your confidence, focus, and performance mindset so you can perform at your best under pressure when it really counts.

    • For performers, gain crucial performance experience in front of an audience leading up to your big audition.

    • Even if you’re not performing, you’ll still learn a lot of valuable skills from attending the workshop and watching the masterclasses that you can apply to your own preparation.

    • Parents are encouraged to purchase an observer seat so they too can gain insight and know how best to support their child leading up to the audition.

Hi, I’m Alex.

Horn player with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, experienced teacher, and performance mindset coach, helping musicians to perform at their best under pressure when it really counts.

The winners of any audition must have not only a clear technical and musical ability, but a strong sense of determination, an iron focus, and a healthy dose of self-confidence in themselves. These are all skills that will benefit any musician, and can absolutely be developed in the practice room.

By taking part in this masterclass, you will gain guidance in how to ensure you are getting the most from your practice, the skills to actively develop your confidence, focus, and mindset, and priceless performance experience and feedback, which is so crucial for any successful audition.

My teachings are all based on the training I received while studying at the Australian National Academy of Music, which had the most transformative difference on my trajectory, and my only frustration with the experience being that I wasn’t exposed to it earlier!

But the good news is that you don’t have to wait until you’re in your 20’s – sign up today for my Performance Workshop & Masterclass for Year 8 Students to give yourself the best chance for success in your upcoming audition.
